My Thoughts on Don’t Talk To Me!
"Don't Talk To Me!" promised a blend of comedy, romance, and school life, and I dove in eager to see what it offered. Overall, I found it to be a heartwarming and engaging story, even if it had a few pacing issues along the way.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit hesitant. Some readers found the beginning slow-paced, with a heavy focus on angst. I can see where they're coming from. The initial chapters definitely lay the groundwork for the MC and ML's backstories, which are both tinged with a good dose of pain. However, I found the characters intriguing enough to push through, and I'm glad I did.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely the highlight. The main characters, Yu Sheng and Jin Linkun, are incredibly likable, each with their own unique story and struggles. Yu Sheng, the seemingly aloof "delinquent" with a hidden soft side, and Jin Linkun, the academic genius struggling with interpersonal relationships, make for a compelling duo. Their slow-burn romance feels organic and well-developed.
The supporting cast also shines. Team 7, in particular, is a source of constant amusement and warmth. They play a crucial role in helping both MC and ML overcome their past traumas and build meaningful connections. Teacher Wan also stands out as a genuinely caring mentor.
The novel excels at portraying the ups and downs of school life, capturing the camaraderie, challenges, and ultimately, the growth that comes with it. I particularly appreciated how the author made even the daunting "gaokao" (China's college entrance exam) seem appealing through the characters' shared dedication and support.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I do agree with some readers that the pacing could be improved. The initial chapters felt somewhat slow, and the ending, while satisfying, dragged on a bit. Additionally, while I appreciated the lack of overly dramatic conflicts, the resolution of certain issues, such as the MC's relationship with his parents, felt a bit too simple for my taste.

Final Verdict
Despite its minor flaws, "Don't Talk To Me!" is a delightful read. It's a heartwarming story about love, healing, and the importance of friendship. If you're looking for a fluffy school-life novel with well-developed characters, a touch of angst, and a strong emphasis on found family, then I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
