Initially, I was drawn in by the comedic setup. The premise of a couple divorcing after centuries together, with the female lead basically saying she loves spicy food more than her husband, is hilarious. The initial chapters set the stage well, introducing the main characters and their reasons for wanting a divorce. It felt lighthearted and promising.
What Works Well
The first half of the novel is definitely the strongest, brimming with humor as the divorced couple tries to prevent their younger selves from falling in love. The story does a great job of exploring the complexities of long-term relationships and how even true love can fade when needs aren't met. The female lead’s growing realization that she barely knows her husband adds a layer of intrigue, and the unfolding secrets surrounding the male lead's past are captivating. I found myself completely invested in their journey, even though romantic scenes were sparse, the emotional depth more than made up for it. The ending nicely connects back to the beginning, giving a satisfying sense of closure.
Areas of Concern
The second half, while still engaging, does lose some momentum. The detailed exploration of the male lead's past, while important for understanding his character, felt a bit repetitive at times. I felt it dragged on a little and reiterated things I already knew.
