My Thoughts on Deep Kiss
"Deep Kiss" promised a refreshing take on the romance genre, and for the most part, it delivered. The role reversal, with a powerful female CEO pursuing a younger, somewhat shy male lead, was immediately appealing. The story is complete and the translation is ongoing.
First Impressions
From the get-go, I was intrigued by the premise. A domineering female CEO isn't exactly a common sight in web novels, and the idea of her chasing after a seemingly meek male lead was a fun twist. I went in expecting some playful teasing, and that's exactly what I got. I was definitely hooked by the first few chapters.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the leads is undoubtedly the strongest aspect of "Deep Kiss." The female lead is proactive and takes initiative, which is a breath of fresh air. I loved how she wasn't forceful, respecting the male lead's boundaries and giving him space when needed. The male lead, while initially shy, is shown to be quietly strong and determined to improve himself, which prevents the relationship from becoming unbalanced. The lack of unnecessary drama and angst was also a major plus for me; it made for a light and enjoyable read.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I did find the ending to be somewhat abrupt. It felt like the author had more to explore, especially regarding the male lead's family situation. The introduction of his family felt somewhat rushed and underdeveloped, leaving me wanting more. I also noticed that some aspects mentioned in the synopsis didn't fully materialize in the story, such as the "spoiled brats" trying to break them up.
