My Thoughts on Court Marriage
"Court Marriage" presents an intriguing premise: a modern man transmigrates into ancient China and finds himself in an arranged marriage. I went into this novel hoping for a blend of historical drama, fantasy elements, and some sweet romance. While it has its charms, it also stumbled in some areas, leaving me with mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The initial description definitely piqued my interest. Ancient China, arranged marriage, cross-dressing—it all sounded like a recipe for a compelling story. I was eager to see how the modern MC would navigate the complexities of his new life and the challenges of a court setting.
What Works Well
The world-building is reasonably well done, and I appreciated the author's attempt to create a believable ancient Chinese setting. The idea of a bisexual protagonist in this context also felt refreshing. I thought the concept of the MC being a seme (dominant partner) added an interesting layer to the relationship dynamics. I found myself invested in seeing how this aspect would play out.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, my enjoyment was hampered by a few significant issues. One concern I had was with the pacing. The story seemed to stretch out in places, losing some of its momentum. I also felt that the plot, while interesting initially, could have been more intricate. The relationship development was a bit too smooth, lacking the tension and conflict that would have made it more engaging. I think that more conflict would have made the story more interesting.

Final Verdict
"Court Marriage" has a unique setup and potential, but it falls short of being a truly great novel. While I appreciated some elements, I was ultimately left wanting more depth, more conflict, and a more nuanced approach to the central relationship. I'd recommend it with caution, especially for readers who are sensitive to potentially problematic content.
