The premise alone is enough to grab your attention: a young woman, Gu Jianli, swaps her engagement to a promising young nobleman for his supposedly dying uncle, Ji Wujing. Right away, you know you're in for something different. The initial chapters set the stage well, establishing Gu Jianli's resourcefulness and the precariousness of her family's situation.
What Works Well
Gu Jianli is a compelling protagonist. She's intelligent, resilient, and possesses a sharp wit that makes her a joy to follow. Ji Wujing, the "dying" uncle, is equally intriguing.
