First Impressions
The initial chapters were definitely intriguing. The concept of a protagonist who gains power through a system based on respecting his ancestors is fresh. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for hilarious situations and creative power-ups. The early romance also felt promising, hinting at a lighthearted and engaging story.
What Works Well
The core system – earning points based on filial piety and respect – is genuinely clever. It allows for a lot of comedic moments as the protagonist navigates tricky situations, trying to balance his desires with the expectations of his ancestors. The idea of drawing power from that connection is also compelling and provides a unique spin on the typical cultivation progression. There were some very funny moments that made me laugh out loud.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the initial promise seems to fade as the story progresses. The plot started to lose its way, becoming less focused and more convoluted. The early charm began to wear off as the story continued. It felt like the author struggled to maintain the initial momentum and creativity.
