The story immediately establishes a power imbalance and sets the stage for a complex and potentially disturbing relationship. It's a bold move that either hooks you or makes you drop the book immediately. I pressed on, curious to see if there would be any form of redemption.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of this novel, and what kept me reading, is the protagonist (MC). His resilience and fighting spirit are truly admirable. Despite facing immense adversity, he refuses to give up, at least initially. I found myself rooting for him, wanting him to find a way out of his situation. The author does a good job of portraying his internal struggles and the desire for freedom. The past, while tragic, is compelling and provides context for the MC's actions and motivations.

The biggest issue I had, and it seems I'm not alone, is the ML's behavior and the subsequent "redemption" arc. While some readers found it passable within the context of the story, I struggled with the ease with which the MC forgives him. It felt rushed and, frankly, unearned. The use of a psychologist felt like a plot device to quickly resolve deep-seated trauma, which undermined the gravity of the situation.
