This novel is definitely a rollercoaster, and not always in a good way. It's a wild ride through some dark themes, and while parts of it were compelling, other aspects left me scratching my head. Be warned, this isn't a light read; it delves into some heavy territory.
First Impressions
Okay, so jumping into this story, I immediately understood why some readers were so polarized. The initial chapters are intense, to say the least. The male lead (ML) is… a lot. He’s controlling, manipulative, and frankly, abusive toward the main character (MC). It's the kind of start that makes you want to throw the book across the room.
What Works Well
Despite the initial shock, some elements kept me reading. The "chasing arc," where the ML tries to win back the MC, is apparently quite long and satisfying for some. The author seems to have put a lot of effort into making the ML's journey to redemption (questionable as it may be) a central part of the story. I can appreciate the effort to show a character facing the consequences of their actions, even if the execution is flawed.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and I think many readers share this sentiment, is the character of the child. The way the child is portrayed feels incredibly unrealistic. A five-year-old investing in stocks and acting like a miniature CEO? It strains believability and takes away from the overall immersion. It felt like a plot device rather than an actual character. Also, the MC's constant crying in the beginning was a bit much. I can understand being traumatized, but it did get repetitive.

However, if you're in the mood for a wild ride with plenty of angst and a somewhat redemptive arc (albeit a questionable one), you might find something to enjoy here. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and maybe keep a box of tissues handy. I'd give it a tentative 3 out of 5 stars.
