First Impressions
The premise is undeniably intriguing: a chance encounter in a urology department after a seven-year separation. I went in expecting a heartwarming reconciliation, filled with fluffy moments and maybe a few awkward situations. And while there were certainly elements of that, I found myself occasionally wrestling with the characters' choices and motivations.
What Works Well
The novel shines when it leans into its comedic aspects. The humor isn't always laugh-out-loud funny, but it provides a welcome lightness to some of the more angsty moments. I also appreciated the exploration of family dynamics, even though they contributed to some of the conflict. The author clearly has a knack for creating a believable world with doting parents and realistic college/university settings. The "cute protagonist" tag is accurate, and I found myself rooting for him, even when he made questionable decisions.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the male lead. While the "clingy lover" and "doting love interest" tags are present, his initial behavior comes across as frustratingly immature and even toxic. The lack of communication between the two leads is a major source of conflict, and at times, it felt artificially prolonged. I understand that misunderstandings drive the plot, but some of them felt easily resolvable with a simple conversation. It's hard to understand why the main character pines for him so much after so long.
