Description
Yoshizawa Wakaba’s childhood friend, Umezono Komaki, embodied the concept of “perfection.” She was well-mannered, intelligent, and excelled in athletics. At least, that was the impression she gave on the surface. In reality, Komaki harbored a nasty personality and frequently looked down on others. One day, Wakaba and Komaki engage in a competition where their dignity is at stake. Following a defeat, Wakaba has her first kiss taken from her. In an attempt to reclaim her dignity, Wakaba agrees to a rematch. Winning means regaining her dignity, but losing entails having the things she holds dear gradually stripped away. As Wakaba loses these meaningful first experiences one by one, she begins to realize that “hatred” is not the only thing she feels about Komaki.

My Thoughts on A Story About Losing All My First Experiences After Suffering Defeat at the Hands of My Twisted Genius of a Childhood Friend
This title is a mouthful, I know! But after diving into "A Story About Losing All My First Experiences After Suffering Defeat at the Hands of My Twisted Genius of a Childhood Friend," I found a compelling, albeit complex, story about love, resentment, and reconciliation. While categorized with ecchi elements, I think the heart of the novel lies in its exploration of the evolving relationship between Wakaba and Komaki.
First Impressions
Initially, I was prepared for something a little more…explicit, given the synopsis. However, I quickly realized the ecchi tag is a bit misleading. The core of the story is definitely the romance, and the journey of these two childhood friends turned rivals. Their dynamic is fascinating, starting from a place of deeply rooted resentment and slowly, painstakingly, evolving into something much more tender.
What Works Well
The character of Wakaba really stood out to me. Her internal struggles, her apathetic facade masking deeper emotions, and her conflicted feelings towards Komaki made her a compelling protagonist. The novel does a great job of portraying her as an "unreliable narrator," someone who masks her true feelings even from herself. Watching her slowly unravel her own emotions and confront the past was genuinely captivating.
I also appreciated the exploration of the twisted dynamic between Wakaba and Komaki. It starts from a place that could almost be described as abusive, but the story doesn't shy away from the complexities of their relationship. The author carefully peels back the layers of their shared history, revealing the pain and resentment that fuels their actions. The gradual healing process felt earned and ultimately satisfying.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I can see how some readers might find the latter half a bit melancholic. The reconciliation felt more like the healing of a broken bond than a passionate romance building from the ground up. I also feel that Komaki's perspective could have been explored further. With only one POV chapter dedicated to her, it was sometimes difficult to fully grasp her motivations. The ending also felt a little rushed, and I would have appreciated a bit more introspection on Wakaba's feelings before the conclusion.

Final Verdict
Despite some minor pacing issues and a somewhat misleading genre tag, I found "A Story About Losing All My First Experiences After Suffering Defeat at the Hands of My Twisted Genius of a Childhood Friend" to be a worthwhile read. It's a short but sweet story about overcoming past hurts and finding love in unexpected places. If you're looking for a yuri romance with complex characters and a focus on emotional healing, I'd recommend giving this one a try. I give it a solid 4/5.
