World Record Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on World Record
"World Record" is a bit of a mixed bag, landing somewhere in the middle for me. It's got some interesting elements, but also some familiar tropes that might make it feel a little generic at times. I went in hoping for something fresh, and while it has moments of brilliance, it didn't entirely blow me away.
First Impressions
My first impression was that this novel has potential. The premise of an overpowered protagonist in a world of superpowers is nothing new, but the initial chapters had a "One-Punch Man" vibe that was intriguing. I was curious to see how the author would handle the familiar setup and whether they could add their own unique spin.
What Works Well
I appreciate the world-building, even if it's not groundbreaking. The lore is explored more than in similar stories, which gives the world a little more depth. The action scenes are also generally enjoyable, and the translation quality is decent, making it an easy read. The author has done a good job of turning the series into a novel as OPM is a gag manga in origin and turning it into a gag novel would just fail so miserably.
Areas of Concern
However, I did notice some recurring issues. The story sometimes feels like it's better suited for a manga or webtoon, with the writing being a bit too bare-bones. I also found the character development to be lacking. Some of the side characters aren't fleshed out enough. The ranking system within the world is also a bit confusing, with multiple ranking systems that aren't clearly defined.

Final Verdict
Overall, "World Record" is a decent read if you're looking for something light and entertaining. It's not a groundbreaking masterpiece, but it has its moments. If you're a fan of the overpowered protagonist trope and don't mind some familiar elements, you might find something to enjoy here. However, if you're looking for a truly unique and innovative story, this might not be the one for you. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
