My Thoughts on Who Says Old Two-Dimensional People Can’t get Married!
"Who Says Old Two-Dimensional People Can’t get Married!" is a danmei novel that really surprised me in the best way. I went in expecting a fluffy romance, and while it certainly delivered on that front, it also offered a surprisingly mature and heartwarming story about finding love and embracing your passions, no matter your age.
First Impressions
The premise itself is quite unique. We have two middle-aged men, both deeply involved in the world of anime and cosplay, finding each other and forging a relationship. The setup immediately grabbed my attention, as it's not often you see stories focusing on older characters in fandom spaces. I was intrigued to see how the author would handle the themes of aging, passion, and finding love later in life.
What Works Well
What I loved most about this novel was its realistic and relatable characters. The MC and ML felt like real people with real lives, dealing with the same anxieties and insecurities that many of us face. The romance was a slow burn, built on mutual respect, communication, and a shared love for their hobbies. The ML's character development was especially well done. He starts off with some questionable behaviors from his youth, but actively works to become a better person, and I appreciated how the story doesn't excuse his past actions, but shows his genuine effort to grow. The MC is also a darling, their relationship is one of equals, which is refreshing to see. They support each other, lift each other up, and create a warm and loving partnership. The novel's exploration of the themes of passion, hobbies, and never being too old to pursue your interests really resonated with me. It's a message that I think many readers will find inspiring and uplifting.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I do have to acknowledge that the translation isn't perfect. There were instances of incorrect pronouns and awkward phrasing, which could be a bit jarring at times. However, the overall plot and character interactions were strong enough to overcome these issues.

Final Verdict
Despite some minor translation issues, "Who Says Old Two-Dimensional People Can’t get Married!" is a truly wonderful and heartwarming read. It's a mature and realistic romance with well-developed characters, a thought-provoking exploration of aging and passion, and a message of hope and acceptance. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying danmei experience.
