Description

"What Are Your Tastes?" is a gentle foray into the lives of two mature men finding love, and it's a story that really resonated with me. The calm, slice-of-life pace makes it a refreshing read in a genre often dominated by high drama. It's a story about adults acting like adults, with all the baggage and complexities that come with it.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a wealthy young master, an artist, unexpectedly finding love with a previously straight businessman. The setup is intriguing, and the initial animosity between the MC and ML provides a good foundation for their eventual connection. The "enemies to lovers" trope, even subtly executed as it is here, always piques my interest.
What Works Well
The character development is a definite highlight. I appreciated how the author explored the MC's gentle nature and his past relationship issues. The ML's journey of self-discovery as he grapples with his feelings is also compelling. The gradual acceptance and understanding that develops between them felt genuine and earned. The author masterfully portrays the slow burn of their relationship, making the eventual romance all the more satisfying. I also found the side GL couple to be a delightful addition, adding another layer of depth to the story. The writing style itself is also commendable, as the dual 3rd person perspective allows for a deeper understanding of both characters' emotions and motivations.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I did find the villain's actions to be a bit over the top. The extreme measures they take, like corporate theft and kidnapping, felt somewhat unrealistic and detracted from the otherwise grounded nature of the story. It's a common trope in danmei, but one I personally find less engaging.
