The potential for comedic gold and heartwarming slice-of-life moments seemed high. However, my initial enthusiasm was tempered as I progressed through the early chapters.
What Works Well
The novel definitely shines in its depiction of familial love, particularly the doting older siblings. The author paints a vivid picture of a family that, despite their villainous reputation (which I'm still trying to figure out exactly what villainy they commited), is fiercely protective and supportive of one another. I also appreciated the focus on slice-of-life elements. The story takes its time exploring the everyday joys and challenges of the characters, creating a cozy and immersive reading experience. The female lead's modern knowledge is used sparingly, which I think is a positive. It doesn't overwhelm the story, but adds a touch of humor and perspective.
Areas of Concern
One of my biggest issues was the pacing. I found the story moved at a snail's pace, dwelling on mundane details that didn't always contribute to the overall plot. I also struggled with the protagonist's initial lack of agency. While the "lazy protagonist" trope can be entertaining, I felt the MC's passivity sometimes bordered on frustrating. There were moments where I longed for her to be more proactive and engaging with her surroundings. The focus on the MC can also feel a little unbalanced. I feel sorry for the older sister who doesn't seem to be as loved and doted on by her parents/grandparents as her baby sister.
