My Thoughts on Three Marriages
"Three Marriages" caught my eye with its intriguing premise: a blind female lead, a seemingly stingy male lead, and, well, three marriages! As I dove in, I found myself charmed by the story's humor and the blossoming romance, even if the initial interactions gave me pause.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit apprehensive. Some readers found the male lead, Long Er, off-putting, even despicable. His early interactions with Ju Mu Er, the blind female lead, felt a bit like bullying, which definitely made me raise an eyebrow. However, as I read further, I started to see the nuances in their relationship.
What Works Well
The core of this novel is the dynamic between Long Er and Ju Mu Er. Despite a rocky start, their relationship evolves beautifully. I loved how Ju Mu Er, despite her blindness, is intelligent, resourceful, and not afraid to stand up for herself. She's definitely not a damsel in distress.
Long Er, while initially portrayed as stingy and petty, grows on you. I appreciated how he learns to appreciate Ju Mu Er's intelligence and talent, eventually falling head over heels for her. His over-the-top reactions and tsundere tendencies are genuinely hilarious, and I found myself chuckling at his antics. The side characters are also well-developed and add depth to the story. I enjoyed how they weren't just static props but had their own arcs and contributed to the overall narrative.
Areas of Concern
I can't deny that Long Er's initial behavior towards Ju Mu Er is problematic. His "teasing" can come across as insensitive, especially considering her blindness. While the story frames it as playful banter, it's understandable why some readers might find it unsettling.

Final Verdict
Despite my initial reservations, "Three Marriages" won me over with its humor, engaging characters, and heartwarming romance. While Long Er's early behavior may not be for everyone, his character development and the overall charm of the story make it a worthwhile read. If you're looking for a historical romance with a strong female lead, a dash of mystery, and plenty of laughs, I'd recommend giving "Three Marriages" a try. Just be prepared for a potentially bumpy start!
