"Thirty Years of Bright Moonlight Night" promised me a sweeping historical fantasy with romance, mystery, and a healthy dose of tragedy. And, well, it delivered... sort of. My experience was a rollercoaster, swinging from moments of genuine emotional connection to frustrating plot contrivances.
First Impressions
The premise definitely hooked me. A love story intertwined with court intrigue and the supernatural? Sign me up! I was ready for angst, bittersweet moments, and a compelling mystery. The initial setup was intriguing, and I was eager to dive into the world and its characters.
What Works Well
When this novel shines, it really shines. The core of the story, the unconditional love between the main leads, is undeniably captivating. There were moments where I felt deeply invested in their relationship, and the author certainly knows how to tug at the heartstrings. The extra chapters, in particular, provided a much-needed dose of happiness and made the journey feel worthwhile. I especially appreciated the focus on character growth throughout the story, even if it wasn't always perfect.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the execution falters in several key areas. While the love story is a major strength, I found the plot logic and world-building to be quite shaky.
