My Thoughts on Things That Deserve To Die
"Things That Deserve To Die" is a wild ride, to say the least. It's a blend of action, mature themes, and a dark romance that definitely isn't for the faint of heart. If you're looking for something that pushes boundaries and isn't afraid to get a little twisted, this might be right up your alley.
First Impressions
Going in, I wasn't sure what to expect. The premise of an assassin falling for their target is a common trope, but the tags hinted at something darker and more complex. The initial chapters definitely throw you into the deep end, with a lot of emphasis on the initial setup and the complicated relationship between the MC, Ja-kyung, and the ML, Il-hyun. I was immediately drawn in by the high-quality writing and the detailed descriptions, which made it easy to visualize the action and get invested in the plot.
What Works Well
The action sequences are a major highlight. They're well-written and exciting, with plenty of "action movie/spy scenes" to keep you engaged. Many readers seem to agree that the plot is surprisingly well-developed, with twists and turns that keep you guessing.
But what really makes this novel stand out is the dynamic between Ja-kyung and Il-hyun. Il-hyun is, without a doubt, a yandere character to the extreme. His obsession with Ja-kyung is both terrifying and, at times, darkly funny. The fact that Ja-kyung isn't a "shy, bashful little shou" is refreshing. He's a strong, capable character who doesn't easily fall under Il-hyun's control, which creates a more balanced and interesting relationship. I also appreciated the comedic undertones that made the darker aspects of the story more palatable.
Areas of Concern
There are some elements that might not appeal to all readers. The novel contains instances of dubious consent, which some found problematic. Also, some found the ML character to be flat. It's important to be aware of these themes before diving in.

Final Verdict
Despite its darker themes, I found "Things That Deserve To Die" to be a surprisingly enjoyable read. The action is thrilling, the characters are complex, and the romance, while twisted, is compelling. If you're a fan of yandere characters, power bottoms, and stories that aren't afraid to explore morally gray areas, I'd recommend giving this one a try. Just be sure to check the trigger warnings and go in with an open mind. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
