Description
Wu Miaomiao was the last in line of the Witch Clan. When she was 2 years old, her master found her a fiancé. When she was 18 years old, she felt that it was time to meet with this fiancé. And so, she carried her school bag and took the train into the city. “My dearest husband, come follow me back to the mountains.” Ji Lang was amused. Amongst the ghosts he had met, this was the first time he met one who came to groomnap. “In that case, shouldn’t we first have our nuptial night?” said Ji Lang. Wu Miaomiao tilted her head. She felt it was logical and headed home with her husband. Ji Lang was the reincarnation of Ephialtes. It was said that if he was to be fully awakened, he would possess the powers to drown the entire human population in their nightmares. He could enter into anybody’s dreams, probe into their dreamscapes and pry into their deepest secrets. Because of this ability, for these 20 years, Ji Lang could not have a good night’s sleep. He was forced to sink into all sorts of nightmares till the day he met the girl from the Witch Clan. On the first day he met her, he slept on her bed. Ji Lang: “You said that you are my wife? (I finally can have a proper sleep (#^.^#))” The people from the metaphysical world feared the power of Ephialtes. They were constantly wary of him fully awakening his powers and destroying the world afterwards. They planted spies near him to put an end to him upon signs of his awakening. Wu Miaomiao: “I heard that you people want to bully my dearest husband, I will curse you all oh~~~” Ji Lang: (#^.^#) Big shots from the metaphysical world: “When are the two of you going to divorce?” Ji Lang: “Do you want to die?” Note: Ephialtes – A nightmare/demon who causes nightmares

My Thoughts on The Witch
"The Witch" was a delightful surprise, a blend of genres that worked far better than I initially expected. It's the kind of story that pulls you in with its charm and keeps you hooked with its clever mix of supernatural elements, romance, and even a touch of crime-solving.
First Impressions
Initially, I wasn't sure what to expect. The sheer number of genres listed – action, comedy, fantasy, psychological, romance, school life, supernatural, xuanhuan – felt a bit overwhelming. However, from the first few chapters, I was charmed by the unique premise: a witch, Wu Miaomiao, seeking out her arranged marriage partner, a horror novelist named Ji Lang who happens to be the reincarnation of a nightmare demon.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely a highlight. Wu Miaomiao is a breath of fresh air – straightforward, proactive, and utterly devoted to her "dearest husband." Ji Lang, the initially cold and cynical novelist, undergoes a satisfying transformation as he gradually warms up to Miaomiao's unwavering affection. I particularly enjoyed their dynamic and how their relationship developed naturally alongside the unfolding plot.
The supernatural elements are also well-integrated. Miaomiao's witchcraft, Ji Lang's nightmare-inducing abilities, and the various ghosts and spirits they encounter create a fascinating world. And I can't forget Wawa, Miaomiao's cursed doll! Wawa is hilarious, creepy, and strangely endearing, quickly becoming a favorite character due to her unique way of expressing emotions after consuming ghosts' resentments. The crimes Ji Lang unwillingly solves are a great addition, I found myself enjoying the fresh and fun events.
The romance isn't overshadowed by the rest of the plot. The author finds a good balance and makes sure the romance and plot coexist alongside each other. Their romance and development is well-paced and believable.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, I can see how some readers might find certain aspects less appealing. While the world building is solid with good explanations, some may find the female lead a little weak. I also noticed that the ending felt a bit abrupt. I was left wanting more closure and a deeper dive into the characters' futures.

Final Verdict
Overall, "The Witch" is a fantastic read. Its unique blend of genres, lovable characters, and engaging plot make it a standout in the web novel landscape. Despite a few minor shortcomings, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted yet captivating story with a touch of the supernatural. I give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
