My Thoughts on The Priest of Corruption
"The Priest of Corruption" is a wild ride, and I'm here for it. It's a novel that throws you into the deep end, and while that might be jarring for some, I found it ultimately rewarding. This isn't your typical isekai story; it's got a dark, absurdist humor that really sets it apart.
First Impressions
Okay, I'll admit, the beginning is a bit rough. Several readers found the initial chapters confusing, and I can see why. It kind of throws you into the middle of a chase scene with minimal context. However, if you stick with it, the narrative starts to click, and the world and the MC's motivations become clearer. I definitely recommend pushing past the first few chapters before making a final judgment.
What Works Well
What really grabbed me was the unique dynamic between the MC and the Mother of Corruption. Their interactions are hilarious, and the fact that she mostly communicates by yelling "Kill!" in a vulgar manner is just pure comedic gold. The MC himself is a refreshing change from the typical overpowered protagonist. He's not brain-dead; he's a fanatic, driven by his devotion to the Mother, and that makes his choices and actions incredibly interesting.
The world-building is also a strong point. It's a dark fantasy setting with its own unique magic, faith, and technology system. I found the action scenes to be well-written and engaging. The author does a good job of balancing the action with humor and character development.
Areas of Concern
The translation quality seems to be a recurring issue. There were reports of a good translation being dropped in favor of a poorly edited machine translation. This can definitely detract from the reading experience, so hopefully, a better translation will become available in the future. Also, some readers felt that the plot started to drag a bit around chapter 140, with too much slice-of-life content slowing down the main story.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "The Priest of Corruption" is a novel that I've found myself enjoying. The unique premise, the hilarious interactions between the MC and the Mother of Corruption, and the well-developed world make it a worthwhile read. If you're looking for something different from the typical isekai fare, and you're willing to overlook some translation issues, then I highly recommend giving this one a try.
