I was immediately drawn in by the premise: a soul swap following a mysterious death sets our protagonist, Miss Shen, on a quest for justice. She inhabits the body of Qin Wan, the neglected ninth miss of a Marquis Manor, and uses her medical and autopsy skills to uncover the truth behind her previous life's demise. The initial setup is intriguing, promising a compelling blend of crime-solving and political maneuvering.
What Works Well
The character of the female lead, Miss Shen (in Qin Wan's body), is definitely a highlight. I enjoyed her calm and collected demeanor. She's intelligent and resourceful, relying on her medical knowledge and observational skills to unravel complex cases. The romance with Yan Chi, the cool and capable heir of Prince Rui, is sweet and adds a nice layer to the story. I appreciated that their relationship develops organically, with mutual respect and affection. The cases themselves, while sometimes a bit straightforward, offer glimpses into the world and the injustices within it. The author paints a vivid picture of ancient China, with its complex social hierarchies and political machinations.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some areas that could be improved. The biggest issue for me was the believability of the female lead's skills. Her transition from learning medicine to performing complex autopsies and surgeries felt a bit rushed and unexplained. It's a leap of faith that requires some suspension of disbelief. Also, some of the mystery resolutions felt a bit too convenient, with the protagonist often jumping to conclusions that felt somewhat unearned.
