This novel was quite the ride! I went in expecting a typical harem drama, but I found myself surprisingly invested in the characters and their tangled relationships. It definitely earns its 4.5-star rating, although it's not without its quirks.

First Impressions

Initially, I was a bit hesitant. The beginning felt a little slow, and I wasn't entirely convinced by the female lead's actions early on. It didn't quite feel authentic to the historical setting, and I struggled to connect with it right away. However, I decided to stick with it, and I'm glad I did.

What Works Well

The strength of this novel lies in its characters and the development of their relationships. The female lead, Ye Yun, is fantastic. She's clever, resourceful, and knows how to play the game in the imperial harem. I admired her ability to protect herself and her loved ones, turning limited resources into powerful weapons. I also appreciated the focus on family, especially the Emperor's love for his children. The way their lives are portrayed, with all their joys and struggles, was genuinely touching. The political intrigue and harem scheming kept me entertained. While there's a lot of it, it never felt too overwhelming, and it added a layer of complexity to the story.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the overall story, there were a few things that bothered me. The fact that the female lead is from the future felt largely irrelevant.
