Description
Xue Si, the fourth son of the Xue Family, was nearly disabled in a world where people cultivated for immortality, because he did not possess Douqi (a sort of Qi, or energy, used for fighting) by the time he was 16. But Xue Si had his own thoughts about this and he not only overcame the difficulty of not having Douqi, but also cultivated himself into an immortal in the ancient world where he was living, and then started his journey to conquer the universe and the planets in another time-space.

My Thoughts on The Hermit
Alright, let's dive into "The Hermit," a xianxia novel I recently spent some time with. With its ongoing status and focus on cultivation, I was hoping for a captivating journey into a world of immortals and power. While it had some moments, my overall impression lands somewhere in the middle.
First Impressions
The story introduces us to a seemingly naive protagonist thrust into the complexities of the cultivation world. He’s definitely a blank slate, which can be appealing if you enjoy watching a character grow and learn, but it can also feel a little slow to start. I felt like I was being drip-fed information about the world rather than immersed in it.
What Works Well
The pacing is definitely on the faster side. The protagonist advances relatively quickly in his cultivation, which can be satisfying if you're looking for a story that doesn't dawdle. I can see how this would appeal to readers who want to see tangible progress being made. It keeps things moving and prevents the story from getting bogged down in excessive exposition.
Areas of Concern
My main issue lies in the world-building and depth. While the protagonist's rapid development is a plus, it also felt a bit shallow. I found myself wanting a more detailed explanation of the power levels and the rules governing this world of immortals. Without that solid foundation, the cultivation felt a little arbitrary at times. I think the story could really benefit from fleshing out these aspects to create a more immersive and believable experience.
Final Verdict
"The Hermit" is a decent way to pass the time if you're looking for a straightforward cultivation story with a focus on rapid progression. However, if you crave intricate world-building and a deeper understanding of the power dynamics, you might find it lacking. It has potential, and I'm curious to see how it develops as it continues, but for now, it's a somewhat average entry in the xianxia genre.
