The Cop with Supernatural Power
By chen jingsheng, 南海十三郎, 陈京胜
Description
Gongping (in Chinese, the pronunciation means justice), a cop, grew up in an orphanage. When his “home” was totaled by a bully property developer, he could do nothing but call upon a goddess to curse him to death. However, the humorous and merciful deity sent a thunderbolt down, which hit Gongping himself, and turned him into a plant man. After ten years of sleeping, Gongping woke up. He discovered he had supernatural powers. When he went back to the police station he once served, he was met by many dark creatures in human shape. They had come to the city he lived in for different purposes. Gongping never thought that all of the dark beasts would worship him, as his power was from a powerful ancient god, Xingtian. Gongping began a new life with a dragon beauty, a snake spirit, and other beast team members.

My Thoughts on The Cop with Supernatural Power
Alright, let's dive into "The Cop with Supernatural Power." I went into this one with an open mind, ready to see what the blend of modern-day policing and supernatural abilities could offer. The premise itself – a cop discovering extraordinary powers – definitely piqued my interest. However, after reading a significant chunk of the available chapters, I have some mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The initial chapters certainly throw you into the thick of things. We get the MC discovering his abilities pretty quickly, and the story wastes no time in presenting a hostage situation. This fast-paced start is arguably one of its stronger points. It sets the stage for what could be an exciting ride.
What Works Well
The core concept, as I said, is intriguing. A police officer suddenly gaining supernatural powers has the potential for some really interesting crime-fighting scenarios and internal conflicts. I also appreciated the early indication that the MC isn't immediately falling into the trap of becoming a harem-seeking protagonist. That's a refreshing change of pace in this genre, and it gave me hope that the story might focus more on plot and character development than romance.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, there are some significant hurdles that readers will have to overcome. The most glaring issue is undoubtedly the translation quality. It's... rough. It definitely detracts from the overall experience and makes it difficult to fully immerse yourself in the story. Sentences are often clunky and awkward, making it hard to follow the plot and understand the characters' motivations.
Beyond the translation, the storytelling itself feels a bit disjointed. The narrative jumps around quite a bit, and important details are sometimes glossed over, leaving you feeling lost and confused. While the story does eventually attempt to explain some of these inconsistencies, it doesn't always succeed in creating a cohesive and engaging narrative. The characters, while showing some initial promise, haven't yet developed the depth needed to truly connect with the reader.
Final Verdict
"The Cop with Supernatural Power" has an interesting premise, but it's currently held back by significant issues. The poor translation makes it a chore to read, and the somewhat disjointed storytelling doesn't help matters. If you're incredibly patient and willing to overlook these flaws, there might be some enjoyment to be found here. However, as it stands, I can't wholeheartedly recommend this novel. I would suggest waiting to see if the translation improves before investing your time.
