"Step In Dangerous Love" presents an intriguing blend of modern romance and military themes, wrapped up in a josei package. I went into this novel expecting a mature love story with some dramatic flair, and while it definitely delivers on the drama, it also left me with some mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The initial chapters immediately pull you into the female lead's world. She's clearly a strong and desirable woman navigating a complex relationship, which is catnip for a romance reader like me. The military backdrop adds an extra layer of intrigue, promising high stakes and potentially dangerous situations.
What Works Well
The novel excels at creating tension and conflict. There's no shortage of drama, and the author isn't afraid to throw obstacles in the path of the main characters. The female lead is also quite popular in the story, which leads to a lot of angst and evil plans from other female characters, which is interesting to watch.

One of my main reservations revolves around the central relationship. The dynamic between the leads feels a little unstable. Their history, which includes a previous divorce, makes their bond seem fragile. The idea of divorce being thrown around somewhat casually does worry me a bit. A solid relationship, in my opinion, needs a more stable foundation.
