My Thoughts on Rule the Roost in the Tang Dynasty
First Impressions
Okay, so I dove into "Rule the Roost in the Tang Dynasty" with some pretty standard expectations: reincarnated dude, ancient China, making things better with future knowledge. The premise itself isn't groundbreaking, but I'm always a sucker for a well-executed historical fantasy. I was hoping for a fun ride through the Tang Dynasty, and for the most part, I got one.
What Works Well
The MC is definitely a highlight. He's competent, scheming, and driven, which makes him pretty engaging to follow. I appreciated how he used his knowledge to improve the Tang Dynasty, especially his dedication to his family and his, shall we say, proactive approach to dealing with potential threats. There's a certain satisfaction in watching him outsmart everyone and build a better future, even if it's a little... ruthless at times. The story reminded me a bit of "Joy of Life" in its early stages, though perhaps with a lighter touch on the drama initially.
Areas of Concern
While the initial chapters were captivating, I did find the later parts of the story lost some of their appeal. As the MC achieves near-invincibility and solves every problem with ease, the tension kind of fizzles out. The story starts to feel a bit like a victory lap, with less focus on substantial development and more on, well, filler. I also found the harem aspect a little too… harmonious. It strains believability that everything would run so smoothly, especially with foreign concubines involved and the MC actively dismantling their homelands.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Rule the Roost in the Tang Dynasty" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of reincarnation stories with a focus on strategic thinking and world-building. While the later chapters might lose some of their initial spark due to a lack of conflict, the early parts of the story are engaging and the MC is a compelling protagonist. If you're looking for a relatively lighthearted romp through ancient China with a competent and scheming MC, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for the story to become increasingly utopian as it progresses.
