My Thoughts on Rotten
"Rotten". With a title like that, I went in expecting something dark, twisted, and maybe a little disturbing. And while it delivered on some of that promise, I walked away feeling… underwhelmed. It's a short read, which can be a blessing, but in this case, it felt like a curse.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely hooked me. The writing style is intriguing, and the author does a solid job of creating a tense, unsettling atmosphere. I was ready to dive deep into a psychological thriller with some horror elements, especially with the promise of complex family relationships and a male yandere.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of "Rotten" is definitely its potential. The author possesses a knack for creating a chilling mood and a sense of unease. The premise itself – hinting at dark secrets, obsession, and a protagonist caught in a web of lies – is compelling. I found myself intrigued by the initial mystery and wanting to unravel the truth behind the unsettling events.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the story falters significantly as it progresses. The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the pacing. It feels incredibly rushed, leaving little room for character development or a satisfying plot. The relationships, which are tagged as "complex," feel underdeveloped and confusing. The plot becomes a jumbled mess of names and actions, making it difficult to follow. The ending, instead of providing a shocking revelation, lands with a dull thud. I was left with more questions than answers, and a sense of frustration that the intriguing premise was ultimately squandered.

Final Verdict
"Rotten" is a prime example of a story with a great concept that ultimately fails in its execution. While the writing style and initial atmosphere are promising, the rushed pacing, underdeveloped characters, and confusing plot leave much to be desired. If you're looking for a quick, dark read and don't mind a disjointed narrative, it might be worth a try. However, if you prefer well-developed characters, a coherent plot, and a satisfying resolution, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Ultimately, I'd give it a generous 2.5 out of 5 stars.
