"Requiem" is a web novel that sunk its claws into me from the very beginning. It's a dark and twisted tale of family, obsession, and suppressed memories, and I found myself completely captivated by its intricate plot and complex characters. If you're looking for something that will challenge you and leave you thinking long after you've finished reading, this might be the story for you.
First Impressions
The premise alone is intriguing: Jaehyun, the protagonist, is living with his father, Junghyuk, after a period of estrangement and memory loss. As he tries to piece together the missing two years of his life, he uncovers a web of secrets, betrayals, and disturbing family dynamics. I was immediately drawn into the mystery surrounding Jaehyun's amnesia and the true nature of his relationship with his cold and powerful father.
What Works Well
The strength of "Requiem" lies in its character development and the exploration of its complex family relationships. Junghyuk is a particularly fascinating character; a wealthy and influential man who wields his power with ruthless efficiency. I found myself simultaneously repulsed and intrigued by his obsession with Jaehyun. The author does an excellent job of creating a tense and unsettling atmosphere, and the slow-burn reveal of the past kept me on the edge of my seat.
