What Works Well
The strength of "Polar Day" lies in its exploration of a deeply unhealthy and obsessive relationship. The dynamic between the main characters is fascinating, albeit disturbing. The author does a good job of portraying the male lead's descent into madness, fueled by a difficult upbringing and an all-consuming love (or perhaps, obsession) for his sister. The story really pulls you in and makes you feel the emotions of the characters, even if those emotions are unsettling.
