My Thoughts on Overlord in the Corner
"Overlord in the Corner" is a unique blend of adventure, comedy, and supernatural elements that kept me entertained, even if it occasionally left me wanting more. This novel follows a disabled homebody who evolves into an interdimensional summoner, and while the premise is intriguing, the execution has both its strengths and weaknesses.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the concept of a cowardly protagonist becoming an overpowered overlord. The early chapters successfully established the MC's initial state and the introduction of his powers. I found myself eager to see how this unlikely hero would navigate his newfound abilities and the challenges that came with them.
What Works Well
The story shines in its world-building and the development of the summoned creatures, particularly Karim the Orc. Watching Karim build his empire is genuinely engaging, and the author does a great job of making these fantastical beings feel real. The novel's comedic elements also land well, providing levity to the more serious plot points. Furthermore, the MC's personality – his calm demeanor and strategic thinking – sets him apart from typical overpowered protagonists. I appreciated how his summoner skills remained relevant throughout the story, even as his own power grew.
Areas of Concern
One of the biggest issues I encountered was the MC's limited screen time, especially in the earlier parts of the story. At times, it felt like Karim's journey overshadowed the protagonist's, leaving me wanting more of the MC's perspective and actions. Another point of concern is the power system, which at times felt inconsistent and underdeveloped. The rapid power-ups and the lack of clear explanations for certain abilities created a sense of shallowness in the world-building. The "hiding power" trope also felt somewhat redundant, as it didn't lead to the satisfying face-slapping moments I typically expect from such stories.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Overlord in the Corner" is an entertaining read. The unique premise, engaging world-building, and comedic elements make it a worthwhile experience. While the MC's limited screen time and the inconsistent power system can be frustrating, the overall story is enjoyable, especially if you appreciate character-driven narratives and a protagonist who remains true to himself. I'd give it a solid 3.8 out of 5 stars.
