My Thoughts on My Boyfriend is A Dragon
Okay, so I dove into "My Boyfriend is A Dragon" with a mix of excitement and trepidation, given the mixed bag of opinions I'd seen. With comedy, mystery, and a supernatural yaoi romance promised, I was hoping for a wild ride. What I got was... complicated.
First Impressions
The premise definitely grabbed me. A human-nonhuman relationship with a possessive dragon in modern times? Sign me up! The initial chapters held promise, and I was eager to see where the story would go, but my enthusiasm waned as I progressed.
What Works Well
Honestly, finding aspects that consistently "worked" was a challenge. The core concept, the idea of the relationship between Xu Lan and Bai Wu, had potential. I could see glimpses of a compelling, if unconventional, romance peeking through. The "tragic past" element also hinted at deeper emotional layers that, if explored properly, could have added significant depth.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the execution stumbled quite a bit. The plot felt disjointed and random. I struggled to maintain a sense of investment, especially with the world-hopping aspect. The transitions felt jarring, and I often found myself lost and confused. The mystery elements also fell flat for me; the investigations felt haphazard, and the resolutions lacked any real punch.
Character development was another major issue. I found it hard to connect with either Xu Lan or Bai Wu. Bai Wu's actions often came across as selfish and irritating, making it difficult to root for him as a love interest. Xu Lan, on the other hand, felt bland and inconsistent, lacking a distinct personality that would make him memorable. The relationship between them felt forced and, at times, even uncomfortable.

Final Verdict
Overall, "My Boyfriend is A Dragon" is a story with a lot of untapped potential. While the initial premise and hints of a tragic romance are intriguing, the disjointed plot, weak character development, and potential for a disappointing ending ultimately detract from the experience. I can't wholeheartedly recommend it. 2/5 stars.
