My Thoughts on Long You Jianghu
"Long You Jianghu" is a historical yaoi novel that certainly left an impression. With its mix of angst, comedy, and complex relationships, it's a story that sticks with you long after you've finished reading. While it's not without its flaws, I found myself surprisingly drawn into the world Xing Bao Er created.
First Impressions
Going in, I was a bit apprehensive, especially given some of the darker tags. The initial chapters can be a bit confusing, and the angst is definitely present right from the start. However, I decided to stick with it, and I'm glad I did. The story gradually unfolds, revealing the intricate dynamics between the characters.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is the character development, particularly regarding the main character's motivations. While some may find him frustrating, I found his actions to be grounded in his past experiences. The shift from angst to a more lighthearted, even hilarious, tone towards the end was a pleasant surprise. I especially enjoyed the comedic situations and the overall sense of devotion between the main characters. The author's ability to blend these contrasting elements is commendable.
Areas of Concern
I can see why some readers might struggle with certain aspects of the plot. The conclusion, while happy, felt a little rushed. I didn't quite feel the depth of happiness that I was hoping for, especially considering the characters' struggles throughout the story.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Long You Jianghu" is an engaging and ultimately satisfying read. If you're willing to navigate some darker themes and a somewhat uneven plot, you'll find a unique and memorable love story. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5. It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth a read if you're looking for something a little different in the yaoi genre.
