The opening chapters certainly throw you into the deep end. We're immediately hit with a power awakening gone wrong, leaving our MC in a less-than-ideal situation. It's a bold move, and it definitely grabbed my attention. However, I can see why some readers might find the initial events jarring.
What Works Well
The core concept of a sword-wielding protagonist in a xuanhuan setting is undeniably appealing. I'm a sucker for cultivation stories, and the promise of a romantic subplot adds another layer of intrigue. The author clearly has a vision for the world and the powers within it, and at times, that vision shines through. There are glimpses of exciting action sequences and the potential for a compelling journey of self-discovery as the MC navigates his new reality.
Areas of Concern
However, I also have some reservations. The initial incident, where the MC is essentially crippled during his awakening, felt rushed and could have been handled with more care.
