My Thoughts on Itinerant Doctor
"Itinerant Doctor" was quite the ride! I dove in expecting Priest's signature style, and I wasn't disappointed. The novel blends action, comedy, and a touch of the psychological into a compelling story. While it has some heavy themes, it's also surprisingly funny and heartwarming.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the quirky characters, especially the main couple. Kou Tong, the seemingly carefree doctor with a hidden past, and Huang Jinchen, the former agent learning to reconnect with humanity, are a delightful pair. Their initial interactions are hilarious, and their relationship develops in a unique and refreshing way.
What Works Well
The character development is definitely a highlight. I appreciated how the author explored the complexities of each character, giving them depth and making them feel incredibly human. The plot, while a bit unconventional and more scenario-based, kept me hooked from beginning to end. I found the blend of humor and serious themes, like mental illness and past trauma, to be well-balanced and thought-provoking. The romance, though not the central focus, was a welcome addition, and I found the way the MC and ML grow to love each other genuinely touching.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I do agree with some readers who felt the ending was a bit rushed. I would have loved to see a more fleshed-out conclusion and a deeper exploration of the characters' emotional states at the end. I also found some aspects of the world-building, particularly the Projector, a little confusing at times. Reading the prequel, "The Ultimate Blue Seal", might provide more context, but I still think a bit more explanation within this story would have been beneficial.

Final Verdict
Overall, I highly recommend "Itinerant Doctor" if you're looking for a unique and engaging danmei novel with well-developed characters, a thought-provoking plot, and a good dose of humor. While the ending could have been more detailed, the journey is definitely worth it. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
