The initial chapters drew me in with the promise of a blossoming school romance. The dynamic between the somewhat aloof female lead and the devoted male lead had me hooked. I was eager to see how their relationship would develop, especially with the hints of deeper emotional wounds lurking beneath the surface for both characters.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its character development and the endearing romance between the main characters. I especially appreciated the exploration of their individual backstories and how they found solace and healing in each other. The "coming of age" aspect, set against the backdrop of school life, was also well-executed. The male lead's unwavering devotion was genuinely heartwarming, and I found myself rooting for them to overcome their challenges. The chemistry between the leads was undeniable, making their interactions all the more engaging.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and it seems I'm not alone, is with the handling of the fantasy elements. The introduction of time travel felt jarring and underdeveloped, disrupting the flow of the story and leaving several loose ends. It felt like a last-minute addition that didn't quite mesh with the established narrative. I, like some other readers, would have preferred a more grounded story focusing on their school life and transition to adulthood, which felt rushed and incomplete. Also, I noticed a peculiar writing quirk: the excessive use of "whispered." It became quite distracting after a while.
