Description
Momoko Ijuin, after graduating from a junior college and completing two years of bridal training, married Kouji Suzuki, her childhood fiancé arranged by her parents. Both of them were 27 years old this year and had been married for five years. One day, her husband unexpectedly asked for a divorce. When she inquired why, he admitted to having feelings for another woman, who turned out to be his former lover. After a chance reunion with this woman, his feelings reignited, leading Momoko to agree to the divorce. She made this decision considering his strange behavior over the past six months and his increasingly rare returns home over the past month, realizing that continuing their marriage would be difficult. Kouji, having finally married the woman he loved most, was at the peak of happiness. Therefore, he failed to realize why Momoko agreed so readily to the divorce.

My Thoughts on I Was Told, ‘I Want a Divorce!’
"I Was Told, ‘I Want a Divorce!’" presents an interesting premise, diving into the complexities of an arranged marriage falling apart. While it hasn't completely captivated me, it certainly has some intriguing elements that kept me reading. Here's my take on this ongoing web novel.
First Impressions
The initial chapters had a slightly…bland feel, I must admit. The writing style didn't immediately pull me into the world as strongly as some other novels do. It felt like I was observing the story from a distance rather than being fully immersed in it. However, the core concept – exploring the fallout of a marriage of convenience and the characters involved – sparked my curiosity enough to continue.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this story is its multi-faceted perspective. I appreciate how the author delves into the viewpoints of various characters, enriching the narrative with interconnected subplots. This approach really elevates the story beyond a simple "annulled engagement" trope, which is so common in similar novels. Seeing the events leading up to the central conflict through different eyes adds depth and complexity, making the world feel more alive. The exploration of the story from a perspective that isn't seen a lot is another aspect that I found really interesting.
Areas of Concern
While the multi-perspective approach is a strength, the initial writing style did leave something to be desired. I was hoping for something that would really grip me and pull me in to the story, but I was left feeling a little underwhelmed. The writing style does improve as the story progresses, however.
Final Verdict
Overall, "I Was Told, ‘I Want a Divorce!’" is a story with potential. If you're looking for a romance that explores multiple perspectives and delves into the intricacies of relationships, this might be worth a try. However, be prepared for a slightly slow start, and a more bland writing style. I'm cautiously optimistic about where the story is headed and will continue to follow its progress.
