My Thoughts on I Really Don’t Want to Sign a Marriage Agreement with the Big Boss
This novel promised a comedic take on the classic celebrity/CEO arranged marriage trope, and while it delivered some laughs, it also left me feeling a little… conflicted. The premise is certainly intriguing, and the initial setup had me hooked, but ultimately, the execution felt a bit lacking.
First Impressions
The story plunges you into the world of a sassy, short-tempered celebrity (the MC) and a seemingly cold, no-nonsense CEO (the ML) bound by a three-year marriage agreement. The initial interactions are undeniably funny, fueled by their clashing personalities and misunderstandings. I was eager to see how their relationship would evolve.
What Works Well
The comedic elements are definitely a strong point, especially in the beginning. The MC's unfiltered personality and his interactions with fans on Weibo were genuinely hilarious. I especially enjoyed the idea of a celebrity who isn't afraid to clap back at haters and share his everyday life with the world. The "face-slapping" moments, where the MC gets his own back, provided some satisfying entertainment.
Areas of Concern
As the story progressed, I found myself increasingly frustrated with the characters. The constant bickering and misunderstandings became tiresome, and the MC's immaturity sometimes bordered on childishness. The ML, while intended to be doting, often came across as emotionally stunted, relying on his staff to decipher the MC's feelings. I also noticed that some of the running gags, like the MC's clumsy "accidents," became repetitive and predictable. The extreme drama and soap-opera-level plot elements also detracted from my enjoyment.

However, the repetitive conflicts, immature character traits, and melodramatic plot ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment. While I appreciate the attempt to subvert the typical tropes, the execution fell short of its potential. I'd recommend this novel with caution, primarily to those who enjoy lighthearted, cliche-filled entertainment and don't mind a bit of frustrating character behavior.
