First Impressions
"I Became a Sugar Mama to an Ancient General during a Famine!" definitely grabbed my attention with its quirky title. The premise – a modern woman sending supplies to an ancient general through a mysterious vase – is undeniably intriguing. I dove in expecting a lighthearted read, and while it has moments of levity, the backdrop of war and famine adds a surprising layer of seriousness. However, I quickly realized this novel isn't for those who like to think too hard. You have to turn off your brain and enjoy it, even though I found it difficult.
What Works Well
The novel's strongest point is the ML. He is a green flag, a young general who sincerely cares for the people; strong, smart, resilient and responsible! I also found myself invested in the general's struggle against overwhelming odds. The author does a decent job portraying the harsh realities of war and famine, making the stakes feel real. The fl is quite pitiful even she's so rich. Who want's their parent's dead and leave massive wealth but not with security from bad intention from family or other's people? I think she's under age about 18 or 20 years old and has depression so she postpone her college. And somehow shopping food, medicine, etc for the general and his people, can make her feels goods. So it's help her too.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the novel's lack of logical consistency. The butterfly effect of the FL's actions is largely ignored, which is frustrating. What happens to the modern world when the past is drastically altered? How is the plastic waste from all those instant noodles being managed in ancient times? The plot is full of holes that become harder to ignore as the story progresses. I also had a hard time with the MC's naivete and the ease with which she solves complex problems with money. It felt a bit too simplistic, especially considering the gravity of the situation. The fact that MC decided to help the ML break through a siege by asking the internet for battle strategies was when I realized this novel just wasn’t for me.
