My Thoughts on Husband is Great Black Belly
I dove into "Husband is Great Black Belly" with a craving for something light and fluffy, and overall, that's pretty much what I got. It's a completed story, which is always a plus in my book, and the premise of a black-bellied male lead falling for a seemingly ordinary, even flawed, female protagonist definitely piqued my interest.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were certainly... something. We're introduced to our young MC, and let's just say her initial interactions with the male lead are memorable, though perhaps not always in the best way. I could immediately see the appeal of the humor, but also understood some reservations about the set up.
What Works Well
Despite some initial reservations, I found myself charmed by the overall sweetness of the story. The male lead's devotion to the female lead is a central theme, and it's portrayed in a way that, while sometimes veering into "too perfect" territory, is undeniably heartwarming. I appreciated the focus on their relationship from junior high through college, and the slice-of-life feel was a nice change of pace from more dramatic plots. The female lead's insecurities felt relatable, even if the male lead sometimes seemed a bit too good to be true. There were definitely moments that made me laugh out loud, and I appreciated the lighthearted tone throughout.

While the fluff factor is high, I can see why some might find the story a bit lacking in depth. The plot is relatively straightforward, and there aren't a lot of major conflicts or twists. I also noticed that the story is told almost entirely from the female lead's perspective, which made it harder to fully understand the male lead's motivations and feelings, especially early on. The translation could be better, as it was sometimes choppy and contained typos, but it was manageable enough to follow the story.
