After one too many typos in traditional characters, he officially kicked the “genius advisor” persona to the curb, packed up his remaining common sense, and headed straight to the Big Boss’s estate. Okay, so "Husband, I Came Back With a Bun" definitely grabbed my attention with its quirky title and intriguing premise. The genres listed – comedy, fantasy, historical, romance, and shounen ai – promised a wild ride. I went in expecting something lighthearted and fluffy with a dash of political intrigue, and honestly, that's pretty much what I got. The cover art is adorable, which definitely helped pique my interest!
What Works Well
The absolute heart of this story is the relationship between the MC and ML. It's a slow-burn romance, which I personally appreciate. The focus on their interactions, especially after the MC's…ahem…return, is genuinely heartwarming. And yes, the "bun" interactions are ridiculously cute! I found myself smiling a lot while reading those scenes. The author does a good job of portraying the ML as more than just a cardboard cutout. He has depth, motivations, and a complex family situation that keeps things interesting. The plot, though perhaps not always at the forefront, is actually quite engaging, particularly the ML's family dynamics and his stance against the emperor.
Areas of Concern
One thing I found a bit jarring was the shift in perspective and tone. The MC's POV is very light and fluffy, almost no-brain-required, while the ML's POV plunges you into political scheming and complex strategies. It can be a bit of a whiplash going back and forth between the two. Also, if you're looking for a super proactive, strategic MC, this might not be your cup of tea. He's more focused on the domestic side of things, while the ML takes charge of the larger plot.
