My Thoughts on Horror University
I've been diving into the world of web novels for quite some time now, and "Horror University" definitely presented a unique experience. Blending horror with xuanhuan elements is a bold move, and the premise certainly grabbed my attention. It's a story about ghosts, cultivation, and the trials of surviving both college and the supernatural.
First Impressions
The initial chapters hooked me with their intriguing setup. The idea of a university teeming with restless spirits and a male protagonist navigating this treacherous landscape was genuinely captivating. I was eager to see how the author would weave together the horror and xuanhuan aspects.
What Works Well
The core concept is undoubtedly the strongest point of "Horror University." The author has crafted a world where the mundane and the macabre collide, creating a sense of unease and suspense. The romantic subplot, while perhaps not the primary focus, adds another layer of complexity to the protagonist's journey. I found myself invested in his struggles, both against the supernatural threats and his own personal growth.
Areas of Concern
While the story's premise and world-building held my interest, I did encounter some issues that detracted from my overall enjoyment. Unfortunately, the editing and proofreading seem to be lacking in certain sections. I noticed inconsistencies in grammar and punctuation, which occasionally disrupted my immersion. There were instances where it became difficult to discern who was speaking or to follow the flow of dialogue due to missing quotation marks or unclear sentence structure. The occasional pronoun errors, where characters were referred to by the wrong gender, also caused some confusion. These issues, while not insurmountable, definitely warrant attention and improvement.
Final Verdict
"Horror University" has the potential to be a truly exceptional web novel. The unique blend of horror and xuanhuan elements, combined with a compelling storyline, makes it a worthwhile read. However, the editing and proofreading need significant improvement to enhance the overall reading experience. If these issues are addressed, I believe this novel could easily achieve a much higher rating and garner a wider audience. As it stands, I'd recommend it with reservations, suggesting readers be prepared to overlook the occasional grammatical hiccup to enjoy the story's core strengths.
