He Only Likes Me sounded like a fun, fluffy read, and while it delivered on some of that promise, it also left me feeling a bit conflicted. I dove in hoping for a sweet and engaging story, and I got...well, a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely hooked me. The world-building was interesting, and I was immediately drawn to the dynamic between the MC and ML. The MC's teasing nature and the ML's shy, protective demeanor were undeniably cute. I was ready for a heartwarming journey filled with fluff and maybe a bit of action.
What Works Well
The early relationship development between the leads is a major strength. Their interactions are undeniably sweet, and the ML's devotion is rather endearing. I appreciated the way the story handled their personalities, especially how their backgrounds shaped their behaviors. There's a certain charm in the contrast between the powerful, yet secretly vulnerable, MC and the quiet, fiercely loyal ML. The story avoids some common pitfalls, like using secondary genders purely for plot convenience, which I found refreshing. It's also a nice change of pace from the usual rebirth and transmigration stories.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel seems to stumble in the second half. The plot felt rushed, and some potentially interesting storylines were dropped or resolved too easily. I also found myself wishing for more depth in the characters beyond their initial traits.
