Description
Ji Mian was forced out of the family after his mother passed away and his father got married to someone else. He was attacked while traveling and suffered major injuries when he crashed into a Desolate Star. He thought he would die on this Desolate Star, but he didn’t expect to wake up again covered with clean bedding and the smell of a hot meal permeating the humble house. Ji Mian tilted his head, not far from him a handsome young Alpha was bent over, silently cooking soup. The Alpha’s name was Chu Shiye, with the lowest level E-Class Attack Power, which in the Capital Star, is regarded as a waste existence. But his eyes were clean and pure, the pair of deep black eyes quietly looked at Ji Mian, as if Ji Mian was his whole world. So Ji Mian thought to himself that it would be good to stay here. However, the good times did not last long when the Desolate Star was suddenly attacked and Ji Mian was separated from Chu Shiye in the chaos, being forcibly brought back to the Capital Star by his own family. The Ji family locked him up for several days and then forced him to marry a person from another rich family. At the engagement party, Ji Mian was about to escape, but unexpectedly a shocking change occurred. An army barged into the engagement venue, led by a young Alpha in uniform, with a frosty face, he walked straight towards Ji Mian. “A-Mian.” Chu Shiye trapped Ji Mian in his arms, his eyes flushed red, and fondly rubbed against the corner of his Omega’s forehead a few times, then said in a dumb voice. “Finally, I found you.”

My Thoughts on He Only Likes Me
He Only Likes Me sounded like a fun, fluffy read, and while it delivered on some of that promise, it also left me feeling a bit conflicted. The premise, a futuristic romance with a cold protagonist and a devoted, almost puppy-like love interest, was definitely intriguing. I dove in hoping for a sweet and engaging story, and I got...well, a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely hooked me. The world-building was interesting, and I was immediately drawn to the dynamic between the MC and ML. The MC's teasing nature and the ML's shy, protective demeanor were undeniably cute. I was ready for a heartwarming journey filled with fluff and maybe a bit of action.
What Works Well
The early relationship development between the leads is a major strength. Their interactions are undeniably sweet, and the ML's devotion is rather endearing. I appreciated the way the story handled their personalities, especially how their backgrounds shaped their behaviors. There's a certain charm in the contrast between the powerful, yet secretly vulnerable, MC and the quiet, fiercely loyal ML. The story avoids some common pitfalls, like using secondary genders purely for plot convenience, which I found refreshing. It's also a nice change of pace from the usual rebirth and transmigration stories.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel seems to stumble in the second half. The plot felt rushed, and some potentially interesting storylines were dropped or resolved too easily. I also found myself wishing for more depth in the characters beyond their initial traits. The MC, in particular, spends a significant portion of the story injured or ill, which, while intended to create vulnerability, ultimately felt like a repetitive plot device. The ending also felt too abrupt, leaving me wanting more closure. The lack of communication between the main characters was also frustrating at times.

Final Verdict
He Only Likes Me has its moments of undeniable charm and sweetness, particularly in the early chapters. However, the rushed plot, underdeveloped characters, and repetitive plot devices ultimately prevent it from reaching its full potential. If you're looking for a quick, fluffy read with a cute couple and don't mind some narrative shortcomings, this might be worth a try. However, if you prefer a more complex plot and well-developed characters, you might want to look elsewhere. I'd give it a cautious recommendation, with the caveat that the second half might not live up to the promise of the first.
