First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me: a second-generation starlet, Li Linlin, is told her career success will doom her love life, so she decides to tank her career. Of course, things don't go as planned, and she ends up becoming even more popular, much to her chagrin. I was definitely intrigued by this comedic setup and ready for some entertaining chaos.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a strong point. I found myself giggling at Li Linlin's antics and the absurd situations she gets into. The dates she goes on are unique and memorable, adding to the overall fun. Many readers appreciated the lighthearted conflicts and the absence of overly dramatic third parties. The characters, while not deeply complex, are likable enough to keep you invested. The initial unrequited love dynamic, where the female lead chases the male lead first, is a trope I usually enjoy, and it was present here.
Areas of Concern
Okay, let's talk about Chen Yiran, the male lead. He seems to be a point of contention for many. Some found him overbearing and controlling, especially when he started pursuing Li Linlin after years of seeing her as a little sister. Others found his personality bland and boring. This age gap also made me uncomfortable, he is 10 years older and has known MC since she was little. His behavior skirts the line and I wasn't sure how I felt about it.
Another issue is the pacing. The story felt rushed towards the end, and the ending felt incomplete, I would have loved to see a side story about the leads' life after marriage.
