My Thoughts on Full Time Servant
After diving into "Full Time Servant," I came out with some mixed feelings. It's a novel that presents an interesting premise, but the execution left me wanting more. While I appreciated certain aspects, some recurring issues kept me from fully enjoying the experience.
First Impressions
The initial setup is intriguing. We have a protagonist who's essentially a jack-of-all-trades, hyper-competent in various skills, yet relegated to the role of a servant. I was curious to see how this dynamic would play out and what kind of challenges he would face. The comedic undertones promised a lighthearted adventure.
What Works Well
The protagonist's competence is definitely a highlight. It's satisfying to see him skillfully navigate different situations and overcome obstacles using his diverse skillset. The world-building is decent, creating a believable fantasy setting with its own rules and creatures. I also appreciate the "helpful protagonist" tag – he's generally a good person, which made me want to root for him.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the pacing and the protagonist's passivity. The plot progresses at a snail's pace, and I found myself waiting for something substantial to happen. The storylines felt somewhat predictable. While his mysterious background is hinted at, the lack of explanation becomes frustrating. I began to feel disconnected from the story.
I also struggled with the comedic aspect. Instead of finding humor, I often felt sympathy for the protagonist, who seemed to endure constant hardship. The "martyr" label resonated with me, as he consistently puts others before himself, even to his own detriment. This self-sacrificing nature, while admirable, bordered on frustrating, especially when those around him didn't seem to fully appreciate his efforts. I also agree that the lack of agency can be a drag, as the protagonist largely goes along with whatever happens to him.

Final Verdict
"Full Time Servant" has potential, but it's held back by its slow pacing, passive protagonist, and a comedic tone that doesn't always land. If you're looking for a lighthearted, action-packed adventure with a strong, proactive protagonist, this might not be the novel for you. However, if you enjoy slow-burn stories with a competent but self-sacrificing main character, it might be worth checking out. I'd give it a tentative 3/5.
