My Thoughts on Flowers of Love
"Flowers of Love" certainly grabbed my attention with its blend of romance, shoujo, and xianxia elements. The premise alone, a goddess struggling with perceived uselessness, intrigued me. After digging in, I can see why it has garnered both strong praise and frustrated sighs.
First Impressions
Initially, the story pulls you in with its sympathetic protagonist. We're introduced to a world where our main character (MC) is, unfortunately, at the bottom of the totem pole despite being a god. This immediately sets the stage for a potentially compelling underdog story, and I was eager to see how she would overcome her challenges.
What Works Well
The emotional core of "Flowers of Love" is definitely one of its strengths. The author does a great job of portraying the MC's feelings of inadequacy and the ache that comes from constant disappointment. The description of her low expectations and cautiousness when treated kindly really resonated with me, adding a layer of depth to her character. I felt genuine empathy for her struggles, and that's a sign of good character writing. The world-building, while perhaps typical of xianxia, provides a solid backdrop for her personal journey.
Areas of Concern
The inconsistent update schedule is a major drawback. Discovering a story with so much potential, only to find it hasn't been updated in years, is disheartening. This makes it difficult to fully invest in the narrative, as there's no guarantee of resolution. Also, while the MC's initial vulnerability is compelling, there is some concern that she may become arrogant if she ever becomes stronger.
