Description
In the twelfth year of the Tianyun era, the capital city fell, causing members of the royal family to scatter. Fourteen years later, under the iron-fisted rule of the new emperor, the chaotic Great Zhou dynasty finally regained peace. At this time, a young man named Fu Ye travels a great distance to the capital, claiming to be the emperor’s long-lost younger brother, the sixth prince who was lost years ago. His sudden appearance shocks the court. Fu Ye kneels in the grand hall, looking up to meet the emperor’s sharp, cold gaze. Remembering that in the original story, the impostor who claimed this identity was beheaded and his head displayed on the city gate for three years, Fu Ye trembles with fear. Now, he faces the challenge of convincingly posing as the emperor’s brother under the tyrant’s watchful eyes to survive. In response, he faints directly at the emperor’s feet.

My Thoughts on Fake Prince
"Fake Prince" piqued my interest with its blend of fantasy, historical elements, and yaoi romance. The premise alone – a grifter pretending to be a long-lost prince in a court ruled by a potentially cruel emperor – is enough to draw anyone in. After diving in, I found a story that, while not entirely groundbreaking, offers a compelling narrative with well-developed characters and a sweet romance.
First Impressions
The initial hook of the story is strong. Fu Ye's predicament as a fake prince thrust into a dangerous political landscape immediately creates tension. I was intrigued by how he would navigate the treacherous court and the enigmatic Emperor. The fact that the MC isn't overpowered and has to rely on his own skills to survive adds to the appeal.
What Works Well
The romance is a major highlight of "Fake Prince." The slow burn and the characters' internal struggles with their feelings are wonderfully portrayed. I particularly enjoyed the "pinning" trope, where the characters silently yearn for each other without realizing the other reciprocates. The yearning and longing were palpable, and the eventual confession scene was a delightful payoff. I found the dynamic between Fu Ye and the Emperor to be compelling, especially as their relationship evolves from suspicion to affection. The author did a good job developing both characters and making them easy to understand.
Areas of Concern
While I generally enjoyed the story, the political intrigue felt somewhat lacking. It was described as rather plain and boring, which, while not a deal-breaker (as the romance is the main focus), did detract slightly from the overall experience. The system administrator element also seems somewhat underdeveloped, primarily serving as a convenient source of information for the MC.

Final Verdict
Overall, I found "Fake Prince" to be an enjoyable read. Despite some minor flaws, the engaging characters, sweet romance, and intriguing premise kept me hooked. If you're a fan of historical fantasy with a focus on character-driven romance, I'd recommend giving this hidden gem a try.
