Description
When I was 15-years-old, during the year that I graduated from middle school, my father told me this. “The Devil’s blood runs in our family.” That was the truth. Sadly my father was the owner of a takeaway chicken shop with the talent of turning his eyes blue, and I was the son of the takeaway shop who just happened to be slightly stronger than others. But five years later. They came for me.

My Thoughts on Dungeon Maker
"Dungeon Maker" is a web novel that I found to be a pretty enjoyable read, though not without its flaws. It's a dungeon-building story with a Demon Lord twist, and while it hits some familiar genre beats, it also manages to carve out its own identity. It's a fun ride overall and has a few clever ideas that kept me engaged.
First Impressions
The beginning definitely throws you right into the action. Our MC, a descendant of one of the Seven Deadly Sins, gets thrust into the role of dungeon lord practically overnight. He inherits a dilapidated dungeon and a couple of quirky subordinates, and it's a scramble from there to get things up and running. While the initial chapters were a bit slow for me, the story quickly picked up as the MC started to get the hang of his powers and the world around him.
What Works Well
I really enjoyed the dungeon-building aspects of the novel. Watching the MC strategically plan his defenses and evolve his monsters was genuinely entertaining. The "Demon of Evolution" ability is a cool concept, and I liked how it allowed the MC to improve his subordinates and adapt to new threats. There's a focus on combat and character growth that is not excessive. Plus, the plot is engaging, with clear goals to reach and looming threats on the horizon.
Areas of Concern
One issue that popped up for me was the translation quality. Although the current translation is enthusiastic, there are some pronoun mix-ups and awkward phrasing that can be distracting. I also felt like the pacing was a bit uneven at times. The story sometimes rushes through important plot points or character development, leaving me wanting more detail. Also, the world building is a bit lacking. I wanted more information about the demon world and the various factions involved.

Final Verdict
Overall, I'd give "Dungeon Maker" a solid recommendation, especially if you're a fan of dungeon-building stories with a bit of a comedic edge. It's not perfect, but it's an entertaining read with some unique ideas. Just be aware of the translation issues and the somewhat rushed pacing. If you can look past those flaws, you'll find a fun and engaging story about a young guy rising to power in the demon world.
