The characters' growth felt realistic and earned. Xie Quan's journey, in particular, resonated with me. He's a broken character, hardened by his past, but the love and support he receives from Lu Nanyang allows him to slowly open up. Lu Nanyang, initially portrayed as indifferent, reveals a caring and almost puppy-like devotion to Xie Quan. The fact that they are a reversible couple, without the toxic power dynamics sometimes found in yaoi stories, was a refreshing bonus.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, some aspects felt a bit rushed or underdeveloped. Certain plot threads, like Lu Nanyang's brother and Xie Quan's past trauma, felt like they were introduced but not fully explored. I also wished the side characters had been given more attention as the story progressed. I would have liked to see Xie Quan get professional help for his addiction and mental health issues rather than relying on the power of love alone.
