Description
Foodie expert Yu Wei, broadcasting live, unexpectedly time-travels to the 1980s and wakes up to find herself with an additional son, with an unknown biological father. She’s not keen on taking care of the child; it’s quite bothersome. But no one can escape the allure of delicious food. Yu Wei declares: the well-behaved little dumpling is so fragrant, so adorable, so clever… she really wants to spoil him. But the poor little cub is in a pitiful state now. Wearing old clothes, gnawing on cold steamed buns, sleeping on straw mats… Yu Wei takes a deep breath: it’s okay, Mommy will earn money to buy things for you! ★ Rumor has it that a new dessert shop has opened in Lu City, with a beautiful proprietress as fair as a celestial maiden, but unfortunately, she already has a child! What’s more, the child doesn’t have a father? Single divorced men in Lu City are all gearing up to make a move. Until one day— People notice that in the early morning, there is always a man coming out of the proprietress’s room, still half-dressed?! Later, they discover that the man who frequently enters and exits the proprietress’s room… turns out to be the golden bachelor that the young maidens of Lu City are eagerly vying to marry! But why did you set your eyes on a mother with a child? Huo Mingwang: “Buy one, get one free, it’s a good deal.” Yu Wei: “?” #The father appears after getting rich##Do you still want to compete for the obedient treasure with her?##He said he doesn’t compete; they’ll raise the child together# *** Enduring countless ridicule, Huo Mingwang emerges from a barren village, hoping like crazy that one day he’ll find that woman and then… kill her. Later, he indeed finds her, but when Yu Wei lies there letting herself be bullied, he softens.

My Thoughts on Daily Life of Raising Cubs in the 1980s
"Daily Life of Raising Cubs in the 1980s" had a premise that really grabbed my attention: a modern woman transmigrating to the past with a magical livestreaming phone, tasked with raising a cute cub. The blend of slice-of-life, childcare, and a dash of the fantastical seemed like a recipe for a delightful read. However, while the initial chapters hooked me, the story ultimately fell short of its potential.
First Impressions
The early chapters were promising. I was immediately invested in the female lead's struggle to adapt to her new life and protect her son from a less-than-ideal family situation. The livestreaming aspect was unique and provided a fun, lighthearted element as she navigated the challenges of 1980s China with modern knowledge. The idea of her using the livestream to earn money and build a better life for herself and her son was genuinely appealing.
What Works Well
Undoubtedly, the strongest aspect of the novel is the adorable baby boy. His initial trauma and slow journey towards healing, thanks to the FL's loving care, were genuinely heartwarming. I found myself rooting for him and enjoying the slice-of-life moments focused on their bond. The pacing of the story was also fairly consistent, making it an easy read when I was looking for something undemanding.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel suffers from several significant flaws. The fantastical elements, particularly the livestreaming app and the backstory involving the FL and ML, felt underdeveloped and convoluted. The explanation behind their past relationship was confusing and delivered as an infodump rather than organically woven into the narrative. I also felt the character development was lacking, particularly concerning the ML's motivations and the FL's adaptability. The author's portrayal of the FL as a hardworking mother was inconsistent, and some scenes felt carelessly written, potentially leading to negative implications for the child. The romance, while present, felt forced and overshadowed by the childcare aspects, ultimately becoming a distraction rather than an enhancement to the plot.

Final Verdict
"Daily Life of Raising Cubs in the 1980s" is an okay read if you're looking for a lighthearted, low-stakes story with a cute child as the main focus. However, the underdeveloped plot, inconsistent character development, and confusing backstory prevent it from reaching its full potential. I'd recommend approaching it with low expectations and primarily enjoying it for the heartwarming moments between the FL and her son.
