"Convention" immediately snagged my attention with its intriguing blend of horror, mystery, and sci-fi elements. The premise alone, with its amnesiac protagonist trapped in a bizarre reality, promised a captivating read. And so far, it's been a wild ride.

First Impressions

Jumping into "Convention" is like waking up from a strange dream, disoriented and unsure of what's real. We're thrown into the shoes of the MC, a painter in a research facility, with no memories of the outside world. This immediate sense of mystery is compelling, and the unsettling nature of his situation – his nocturnal excursions into a world where he's practically invisible unless he's covered in blood – had me hooked from the start. The setup is undeniably unique and masterfully unsettling.

What Works Well

The atmosphere is definitely a strong point. The author does a fantastic job of creating a sense of dread and unease. The world feels broken and the protagonist's confusion is palpable. I also appreciate the slow burn of the plot. We're given just enough information to keep us guessing, but not so much that the mystery is spoiled. The encounters with the mysterious female character, hinted at on the cover, are especially intriguing. Her cryptic messages and the MC's desperate attempts to understand them add a layer of psychological depth to the story. And I have to give props to the translation quality; it's smooth and well-written, which allows me to fully immerse myself in the narrative.

While the mystery is compelling, I do hope the author provides some answers soon. A little more world building to help the reader understand the story more would be helpful.
