Cognitive Bias
By shu xi, 蜀夕
2022
Description
Xia Tang is a new transfer student and she usually follows the rules, just like a normal student. Lu Xiao is a well-known figure in the school, with a prominent family background and a bad temper. The general understanding in the school was that Xia Tang had annoyed Lu Xiao, and they were just waiting to see the day that she drops out of school. Until the two of them were caught kissing in the utility room. They live together. They also occasionally sleep together. Lu Xiao felt that they were an underground couple who concealed their relationship. Xia Tang thinks that they are just friends with benefits who have regular physical contact. One side thought that it is Romeo and Juliet, while the other side thought that it was Huang Shiren and the White-Haired Girl. The so-called cognitive bias.

My Thoughts on Cognitive Bias
Okay, let's dive into "Cognitive Bias." This novel piqued my interest with its blend of school life, romance, and a dash of spice, all set against the backdrop of differing social statuses. I've read a fair share of web novels, and stories tackling class differences always have the potential to be either incredibly compelling or fall flat. So, how does this one fare?
First Impressions
The initial setup is classic but intriguing: Xia Tang, a scholarship student, navigates the halls of an elite high school dominated by wealthy students, including Liu Xiao, her childhood friend and secret lover. It's a familiar trope, reminiscent of other stories where the "commoner" and the "prince" find themselves drawn to each other. This immediately sets the stage for potential drama, angst, and, of course, plenty of fluffy moments.
What Works Well
The dynamic between Xia Tang and Liu Xiao seems to be a major draw. I was particularly interested in how the author portrays their relationship, and I'm happy to say it's described as respectful and consensual, which is a huge plus in the romance genre. The fact that Xia Tang is portrayed as the one "wearing the pants" in the relationship is a refreshing twist. It's always good to see female characters taking charge and setting boundaries. The "spicy" scenes are also mentioned as well-written and adding to the overall enjoyment, which certainly adds to the appeal for readers looking for a bit more heat in their romance. The author seems to have nailed the balance between fluff, angst, and steaminess, creating a compelling read.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Cognitive Bias" sounds like a promising read for those who enjoy school life romances with a touch of social commentary and steamy scenes. The dynamic between the leads, particularly the female lead's strong personality, seems to be a key strength. If you're looking for a story with a possessive but respectful male lead and a confident female lead navigating the complexities of love and social status, this might be right up your alley. I'm definitely adding this to my reading list!
